The practical mechanical operation modes are mainly divided into two categories: single-dimensional basic motion and multi-dimensional composite linkage.
I. Single-Dimensional Basic Mechanical Operation Modes
Vertical Independent Lifting: The most widely used motion mode in industrial applications. LED display units are arranged in a matrix, and each unit achieves independent vertical lifting through lead screws, synchronous belts, or chain mechanisms. They can be combined to form three-dimensional effects such as waves, curved surfaces, and contour shapes. The mechanism is mature and highly stable, suitable for most indoor and outdoor kinetic display scenarios.
Depth Axial Telescopic Movement: Display units extend and retract forward and backward along the Z-axis, creating staggered spatial depth. Different from vertical lifting, this mode focuses on constructing three-dimensional spatial layers, and is mostly used in high-end custom exhibition halls and immersive art installations.
Horizontal Translation & Opening/Closing: The entire screen or segmented screens perform horizontal left-right translation, split opening, and staggered movement along linear guides. Some solutions support vertical translation and opening/closing, mainly driven by gear racks and heavy-duty guides. It is commonly used for main visual opening/closing on stages, spatial partitions, and passage installations.
Axial Flipping Movement: Divided into 180° forward-reverse flipping and limited-angle flipping. Units rotate around a fixed axis to switch between double-sided content. The linkage of multiple units can form dynamic texture effects. The mechanism is simple and reliable, mostly applied in creative display and information switching projects.
Fixed-Point Rotation Movement: Including integral rotation of the whole screen and independent rotation of single modules. Integral rotation is mostly used for cylindrical and circular display devices; independent module rotation is a multi-degree-of-freedom custom solution that enables multi-angle screen splicing, representing a high-end kinetic screen form.
Swing Arm Reciprocating Swing: Screen units are driven by crank swing arm mechanisms to reciprocate within a set angle, forming rhythmic dynamic effects. It is widely used in stage dynamic backgrounds and night tour lighting installations.
Long-Rail Roaming Movement: Single or multiple linked screens move along linear or arc long rails in a full range, some equipped with lifting mechanisms to realize screen position transformation. It is often used in press conferences, immersive theaters, and other scenarios.
Folding & Storage Movement: Hinge and folding arm structures are adopted to realize leaf-type or stacked folding of screens, meeting the needs of rapid storage and transportation for temporary exhibitions and mobile stages. It belongs to a functional mechanical motion mode.
II. Multi-Dimensional Composite Linkage Operation Modes In practical projects, composite motions are mostly adopted to achieve richer visual effects. Common composite forms in the industry include:
1. Composite of vertical lifting and depth telescopic movement, realizing true three-dimensional modeling. 2. Composite of translation/opening/closing and axial flipping, taking into account spatial transformation and content switching. 3. Composite of lifting and fixed-point rotation, where units rotate while displacing, presenting complex spatial forms. 4. Full-range multi-axis synchronous linkage, which is uniformly dispatched through a central control system to achieve precise matching of multi-unit, multi-dimensional motion and screen timing.
III. Control Logic Operation Modes
From the perspective of control execution, common operation logics in the industry also include:
1. Synchronous Linkage Mode: All units execute a unified trajectory, presenting an overall visual effect. 2. Asynchronous Independent Mode: Each unit moves with independent programming, forming differentiated dynamic effects. 3. Position Locking Mode: Units stop accurately at specified coordinates to maintain static three-dimensional modeling. 4. Audio-Video Following Mode: Mechanical motion is bound to screen and audio timing, realizing integrated presentation of content and motion.
With the continuous upgrading of precision servo control, real-time synchronization algorithms, and intelligent sensing technologies, the mechanical operation modes of mechanical screens are gradually evolving from fixed preset trajectories to flexible interaction, real-time response, and high-precision collaboration.
