Common Detection Methods for LED Display Chip Faults

LED displays are known for their high brightness, superior clarity, and reliable performance. With advancing technology, they are now widely used. Below are common maintenance and detection methods for LED electronic displays:

01. Short-Circuit Detection Method

01. Short-Circuit Detection Method

Set the multimeter to the short-circuit detection mode (usually with an alarm function that beeps when conduction occurs) to check for any short circuits. If a short circuit is detected, it should be resolved immediately, as this is one of the most common failures in LED display modules. Sometimes, the issue can be identified simply by visually inspecting the IC pins and header pins.

Note: Short-circuit testing must be performed with the power off to avoid damaging the multimeter. This method is the most frequently used due to its simplicity and efficiency. Approximately 90% of faults can be diagnosed using this approach.

02. Resistance Detection Method
Set the multimeter to the resistance mode. Measure the resistance to ground at a specific point on a normally functioning circuit board, then measure the same point on another identical board. If the values differ, the problem area can be identified.

03. Voltage Detection Method

Set the multimeter to the voltage mode. Measure the voltage to ground at a suspected point on the circuit and compare it with the normal value. This helps conveniently narrow down the issue.

04. Voltage Drop Detection Method

Set the multimeter to the diode voltage drop test mode. Since all ICs are composed of numerous basic components (only miniaturized), a voltage drop will occur across a pin when current flows through it. Generally, the voltage drop on the same pin of identical IC models is similar. By comparing the voltage drop values on pins, malfunctions can be identified. Note: This test must also be carried out with the power off.
