  • Indoor LED screens generally have a protection rating of IP20. According to standard definitions, this rating can only prevent the intrusion of solid foreign objects with a diameter greater than 12.5mm, and provides no waterproof capability at all. The module splicing gaps, cabinet interfaces, circuit board solder joints, and other components of the screen are not sealed.
  • In contrast, outdoor LED screens are required to have a protection rating of IP65 or higher. In accordance with standard requirements, their front side can completely prevent dust ingress and withstand low-pressure water jets from any direction. The back side also adopts a dual-protection design with sealing rubber strips plus waterproof cover plates, making them suitable for complex outdoor environments such as rainy days, foggy days, and dusty conditions.

  • Differences in Weather Resistance Design (Based on Adaptability Requirements for Extreme Outdoor Environments)
  • The cabinets of outdoor LED screens are made of UV-resistant aluminum alloy or galvanized steel plates. The circuit boards are treated with conformal coating (moisture-proof, mildew-proof, and salt spray-proof), and the lamp beads adopt anti-aging packaging processes dedicated to outdoor use. They can adapt to an extreme temperature range of -30℃ to 60℃, which is a standard weather resistance requirement for outdoor electronic devices.
  • Indoor LED screens lack the above weather-resistant treatments. Long-term exposure to outdoor environments will lead to problems such as module deformation, lamp bead yellowing and falling off, and driver board corrosion. When used outdoors, they are prone to being blown over by strong winds or causing circuit faults due to lightning induction, posing potential electric leakage safety hazards.   • Protective Measures for Short-Term Temporary Use
  • If indoor screens must be temporarily moved outdoors for event needs, the following conditions must be met, and they can only be used for emergency purposes, not for long-term placement:
  • 1. Build a fully enclosed waterproof shed that covers the screen and all wiring parts, while reserving ventilation openings to prevent internal overheating.
  • 2. Install light-shielding baffles to reduce the angle of direct sunlight and improve image contrast.
  • 3. Replace with rainproof switching power supplies and install lightning protection and grounding devices in accordance with electrical specifications.
  • 4. Avoid use during rainy days and high-temperature exposure periods, and promptly disassemble and move the screens back indoors after use.
